Freaky dog fennel flower? Diffle-wuzzie?

Look again. It's a Camouflaged Looper, the caterpillar of the Wavy-lined Emerald moth, Synchlora aerata. It sticks flower bits to its back as it munches on the flowers of a variety of plants. If you are having trouble seeing that it is indeed a cat, click on the picture to enlarge it. The larva's head is toward my fingernail.

Hello! I was wondering if I could have your permission to use one of your lace-capped caterpillar photos in an online newsletter this week for The Nature Musuem at Grafton in Grafton, Vermont (www.nature-museum.org). It would accompany a great article about the caterpillar by a Marlboro College biology professor emeritus. Please reply to madeline@nature-museum.org. Thank you! Great photos! --Madeline
